The 2011 Joint Statistical Meetings (JSM) Conference was in Miami this year. I somehow got talked into writing and presenting a paper, but I’m so glad I did. It was a great new experience (presenting), and I guess being in Miami wasn’t all that bad either :-).
Getting there was a little annoying, our flight kept getting pushed back; Spencer was pleased.
But I guess we generally enjoyed our airport time. Aw.
We stayed at the Royal Palm, which I think is the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. There was lots of “Ew, what’s that?” regarding questionable stains in the hallways, in our room, and at the beach (the towels). The shower drain in our room didn’t drain after Spencer’s shower the first night, so I had to shower in gross standing water, ew. They let us switch rooms, but I think the second room was slightly worse. But anyway, enough complaining. We didn’t spend too much time in the room anyway, so no big deal! And the grounds were fairly nice.

What the sign should have said.
But the beach was awesome, and we spent quite a bit of time there. We got this great waterproof point and shoot which we took to the beach with us. Very impressed with the photo quality!

I’ll do a separate post of the sunrise/sunset pics we took but here’s a preview!
